ICOC History WebsiteNew website which telling the story of the International Churches of Christ from first hand points of view On the Disciples Today website (a website for our collection of sister churches worldwide), there is an International News Bulletin that is posted regularly with exciting news about what other disciples are doing around the world. This week the bulletin had a story about a new website that tells the story of the International Churches of Christ from first-hand points of view. The website is www.icochistory.org. In the article on the bulletin, written by Roger Lamb from our sister church in Boston, MA, he says that "Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled. – Romans 15:4 One of the truly amazing things about the Bible is that it tells the good, the bad, and the ugly and yet provides the greatest hope of all time. The same should be true of our telling our own stories and history." If you are interested in learning more, the site is full of original materials, including articles, bulletins, global perspectives of church plantings, podcasts of living history interviews, a media library, and more. Some of the questions the article says are addressed on the website are: If you have any additional materials you recommend be added to the site, please send it to rlamb@dtoday.net. South Bay Church Service & Black Joy Parade in OaklandSunday, February 27, 2022 Our South Bay Group will attend The 5th Annual Black Joy Parade for their Sunday Service and Fellowship!Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.” As a minister, he preached about biblical values, like justice for the oppressed. Some churches claim to be places of justice and peace but avoid discussing racial injustices and the like.
As Ernie Chambers once put so eloquently in the documentary, A Time for Burning (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrMKY2n-EPc), “We are fighting ignorance in the place [the church] where there should be the most enlightenment."
God wants us to acknowledge the continued injustices and to celebrate our his ability to overcome them. Proverbs 21:15 "When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers." Let's take this seriously, learn from God, and create a place that is safe for all.
So, come join our South Bay Small Group in attending the Black Joy Parade and festivities in Oakland! They will have a communion service and will enjoy fellowship and festivities together. If you are interested in joining them, please contact Greg & Della McMillan or click on the button below for times and meeting locations.
